FDE is a Zone 4 & 6 prime under the Seaport-E program

3.8 Human Factors, Performance, and Usability Engineering Support

FDE Prime Contract: N61339-02-D-0001 (Zones 4 & 6). FDE modified the S-3B Instructor Operator Console by removing the obsolete Tactics Alphanumeric Display and Tactics Graphics Display at the console, the parallax driver cards, and the touch panels. This old equipment was replaced with a new PC-based system driving dual 21-inch color monitors at the console. The obsolete VT100 keyboard and desktop-mounted trackball were replaced with a keyboard and mouse. We also installed new countertops and relocated the Debriefing touch panel. Cognitive and functional human factors evaluations ensured that systems were efficiently operable to accomplish mission functions, as well as to reduce human error.

CSC Prime Contract: N00024-01-D-7017 (Zone 4). In New Orleans, CSC performs on-site technical analysis and review of human factors engineering-related issues associated with the design and construction of LPD 17. CSC provides continuous on-site human systems engineering support, including working with the Virtual Crew Review, which has led to the resolution of more than 65 issues, thereby reducing accidents, increasing systems integrity, and enabling more efficient production processes. CSC conducted human engineering for the electronic mock-ups and supported first article reviews of equipment.
